Staying safe while working is essential, and having access to reliable information can make a real difference when screening potential clients. The NUM Checker is one of the most valuable digital tools available to sex workers today, helping you stay informed, spot potential risks, and make confident choices before accepting a booking.
The NUM Checker is an online safety tool developed by National Ugly Mugs (NUM). It allows sex workers to screen client information against reports shared by the community. If someone has been associated with harmful, unsafe, or concerning behaviour, NUM’s database may contain a record of it—giving you an extra layer of protection.
You can access the NUM Checker directly as a NUM member, or through your Vivastreet account area for a quick and convenient route to screening.
Before agreeing to a booking, you can run a search using key details a client provides, including:
Email address
Mobile or landline number
Online profile handle or username
Vehicle registration
Simply enter one or more pieces of information into the search bar and select ‘Run check’. The system will then look for matches within the NUM database:
If a match is found: A warning message will appear, helping you assess whether you feel comfortable proceeding.
If no match is found: You’ll receive a message confirming that nothing has been reported under those details.
It’s important to remember that a clear search does not automatically mean a client is safe — only that no relevant reports have been made. Screening should always be used alongside your own judgement and personal safety practices.
Vivastreet users benefit from priority access to NUM membership, unlocking a wide range of safety tools and supportive services. When signing up, just provide your Vivastreet account number or a link to your advert to fast-track the verification process.
As a NUM member, you can also opt in to receive NUM Alerts — email or SMS notifications about incidents, crime, or concerning behaviour reported in your selected region. These alerts help keep the community informed, connected, and protected.
By using tools like the NUM Checker and continuing your own screening routines, you contribute to a safer environment not only for yourself but for the wider sex work community. Every report, check, and thoughtful decision helps strengthen collective safety.
