Sex Work 101

What to do if someone leaks your OnlyFans content

OnlyFans is a platform that’s given sex workers and adult content creators the freedom to make money and connect to audiences worldwide. But sometimes, users don’t play by the rules.

Realising your OnlyFans content has been leaked is a stressful experience. This article outlines the main steps you can take alongside OnlyFan’s contact points and policy to help you resolve the issue.

What are OnlyFan’s laws on leaking content?

Only Fans is a great way to supplement your income or make a full-time wage. But how well do you know their terms and conditions for leaking content?

According to the platform’s terms of service, users must agree to:

“You must not reproduce, distribute, modify, create derivative works of, publicly display, publicly perform, republish, download, store, or transmit any of the material on the Website, except as follows: you may store files that are automatically cached by your Web browser for display enhancement purposes; and you may print or download one copy of a reasonable number of pages of the Website for your own personal, non-commercial use and not for further reproduction, publication, or distribution.”

But what does this mean in English? Basically, the T&Cs state that recording content from a user’s OnlyFans page and posting it elsewhere is a direct violation of the platform’s terms and services.

In an ideal world, this would mean the leaker would be banned immediately. However, some content creators report that OnlyFans can be slow to reply to problems and to restrict users who break the T&Cs.

This means you may not be able to get rid of the leaker or recover the content as quickly as you want. But it’s still worth contacting OnlyFans support to inform them of the breach.

What about screenshotting content?

OnlyFans doesn’t condone screenshotting or recording a user’s content. In fact, OnlyFans has disabled the ability to download user’s videos or photos directly from the app or desktop platform.

Unfortunately, there are special programs that allow devices to capture content and bypass these laws. The platform does not notify you if this happens. If a user does this, they’ve broken the terms of service:

“Do not reproduce, print, distribute, attempt to download, modify, create derivative works of, publicly display, publicly perform, republish, download, store or transmit any Content, except as permitted under the Terms of Service.”

Steps to take if someone leaks your Only Fans content

Realising your content has been leaked is never a pleasant experience. Here are some steps you can take if you find yourself in this situation:

1. Take a deep breath

Before you take any action, stop and take a deep breath. It’s normal to feel anxious in this situation, but you must practise self-care and self-soothing techniques. Try to get yourself in a calm state of mind before you continue.

Depending on whether your friends and family know about your career, you might want to go to a loved one for support. If your OnlyFans is a secret, you can contact online communities or helplines for some emotional assistance.

You may also want to contact a sex work-friendly therapist for professional help.

2. Report the content

Your next step is to report the leaked content.

Firstly, report the content on whatever site it’s found on. You then want to message OnlyFans and let them know about the leak. Send them the address of the leak so they can help you get it blocked on that site.

If you know which subscriber causes the leak, you may also want to bring this to OnlyFan’s attention.

You can contact OnlyFans through the inquiry form on the website. However, you can also contact them via their Twitter or user email address – support@OnlyFans.com.

When contacted, OnlyFans’s Copyright Team will help take down stolen content on third-party websites by:

  • Issuing formal takedown notices against all copyright violations
  • Issuing notices on all illicit target websites, domain registrars, and hosting services
  • Notifying major search engines of infringements

OnlyFans provides these services for free, so it’s worth your time supplying supporting details and evidence.

As mentioned above in the article, content removal and response varies. OnlyFans base their responses on the infringing website and due legal process. They also encourage contacting the website directly to speed up the takedown.

3. Consider the legal options

If you have the means, you can also take the legal action into your own hands. However, this isn’t always available, as there can be high legal costs.

However, if you want to pursue stolen OnlyFans content, you should take one of these paths:

  • Contact a local lawyer, or a lawyer specialised in copyright law
  • Send a DMCA takedown notice to prompt removal of your content
  • Consult a professional for personalised advice

Lawyers are very helpful when removing copyrighted posts quickly and quietly. However, be aware that this isn’t a cheap option, and your local law office might not have the means or specialist expertise to help.

How to know if someone has leaked your OnlyFans content

Oftentimes, OnlyFans creators come across the leak themselves or receive it from a friend or anonymous source. However, you may suspect that your content has been breached.

Here are some ways you can work out if your adult content has been leaked:

  • Reverse image search – A reverse image search will show you other websites that have the video or image that’s stolen. Google Image Search provides this tool for free
  • Use a facial or image recognition service – While not free, facial or image recognition services use your content to search for online matches. If any matches are found, they will alert you and show you the location
  • Look through popular adult sites – Some content creators regularly search their names on popular adult sites to look for leaks. Once posted on one, content tends to get uploaded to others. So, staying on top of leaks will limit the spread

The takeaway

Finding out that someone has leaked your content often feels like a major invasion of privacy. There are very few positives to this situation, but some creators choose to look at it as a free promotion. Hopefully, these steps have helped you create a course of action to get the content taken down and the perpetrator banned.
